    Heavy rains causing slope movement displaced the pipeline, which eventually bent and broke.
    Release: Gas, vapour, mist, or smoke release to air
    Highly flammable methane gas was released into air.
    Explosion: Deflagration
    The flammable vapour/air mixture ignited and exploded.
    Fire: Jet fire
    A jet fire started and continued to burn until the gas feed was shut.

Emergency Response

  • Local fire fighting team
  • Local hazmat team
Local police and fire fighters responded the emergency, to limit the spreading of the fire and to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians.

A house was engulfed by flames and another three suffered damage.

Remedial Activities

A team of experienced technicians from the company rushed to the site to speed up the repair works and restore the gas supply.

Lessons Learned

Large pipelines for the transportation of hazardous material should be placed away from buildings, where possible.
