The wildfire that broke out northeast of Athens on 11 August 2024 is among the most disastrous wildfires in the area. The wildfire spread rapidly under strong winds.

On 12/08/2024, the municipality of Attiki was set to the hazard level "5 - Emergency state" as per the Ministry of climatic crises and civil protection.

Due to the wildfire, residential areas were evacuated and serious damages were induced to residential buildings, business enterprises, and forest areas. According to the Copernicus service, the wildfire front was extended up to a length of 23 km, burning 85,000 ha of land.

One death was reported and one firefighter was injured.
