Description of the Consequences
The lightning strike caused damage to a part of the electricity distribution network, which affected 728 oil wells (i.e., nearly half of the wells the company operates across the country) in its most productive blocks in the country's Amazon region.
The oil wells affected by the power outage are spread across its most productive oilfields, including Sacha, Shushufindi, Auca, Indillana, Libertador, Palo Azul and Lago Agrio. These oil wells make up 46% of what the the state-owned oil company, Petroecuador, exploits.
The country's daily oil production decreased by 11%.
